About Daffodil Days®
Daffodil Days is one of the American Cancer Society's oldest and most beloved fundraising programs. As the first flower of spring, the daffodil represents hope and renewal. To the American Cancer Society, the daffodil symbolizes the hope we all share for a future where cancer no longer threatens those we love. For 35 years, Daffodil Days has empowered people to make a difference in the fight against cancer by raising funds and awareness to help beat the disease. Daffodil Days involves offering daffodils every spring to donors in appreciation for their contributions, but it is about more than just giving beautiful flowers - it is everyone's opportunity to share hope for a world free of cancer. By giving daffodils to friends, family members, local businesspeople, and even cancer patients, you are really giving hope by enabling the Society to offer free programs and services to improve the lives of people facing cancer.

Your support of American Cancer Society Daffodil Days helps give strength and hope to the millions of Americans facing cancer. Our lifesaving mission is possible only because of caring people like you.

Together, we are fighting cancer on all fronts:

Research

The American Cancer Society is the largest source of private, nonprofit cancer research funds in the United States, second only to the federal government in total dollars spent. To date, the Society has invested $3 billion in cancer research and 40 American Cancer Society-funded researchers have been awarded the Nobel Prize, the highest accolade of scientific achievement. The Society has been involved in virtually every major cancer breakthrough of the past half-century, including:

  • Confirming the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer
  • Demonstrating the effectiveness of the Pap smear in detecting cervical cancer earlier
  • Proving the safety and effectiveness of mammograms in detecting breast cancer at its earliest stage
  • Defining the structure of DNA
  • Creating hormonal therapy for prostate cancer
  • Identifying the genetic link for breast cancer

Our past triumphs only deepen our resolve to push ever forward in the battle against cancer.

Education and Community Service

We know that having cancer is hard, but finding help shouldn't be. That's why the American Cancer Society provides free educational programs and support services to help improve the quality of life for all cancer patients and their families. With a presence in more than 3,400 communities across the country, the Society helps all people facing the disease, when and where they need assistance. A sampling of the many resources the Society offers thanks to dollars raised through Daffodil Days includes:

  • Transportation assistance to and from treatment
  • Lodging assistance when traveling far distances for treatment
  • A one-on-one support program that matches trained breast cancer survivors with those newly diagnosed with disease to provide emotional support and guidance
  • A series of online educational classes for people with cancer and their loved ones
  • A free and confidential service that helps cancer patients locate a cancer clinical trial based on their individual situation
  • A free program dedicated to teaching women techniques to help restore their appearance and self image during cancer treatments
  • A program that offers free information and support to men with prostate cancer
  • Free information any time, day or night at 1-800-ACS-2345 and www.cancer.org

Advocacy

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the Society's nonprofit, nonpartisan sister organization that consists of a grassroots network of volunteers working on the local, state, and federal levels to pass meaningful legislation. ACS CAN advocates for stronger public health laws to fight cancer and achieve equal access to quality health care for all people.

If you or someone you love is facing cancer, please call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-ACS-2345, or visit us at www.cancer.org. No matter who you are, we can help.
