| Annual Report to the Nation on The Status of Cancer |

| WHAT:

A media briefing from officials of the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to present new data from an article to be published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (April 21, 1999). The 1999 status report includes updated data on new cancer cases and deaths with a special section on lung cancer and tobacco use.
State by state patterns of smoking and state data on lung cancer deaths will be provided. Important changes in age-specific patterns of new cases of lung cancer in women are presented in this analysis. Implications for research, program and policy development will be discussed.
