“If I am not for myself, then who will be for me?
And if I am only for myself, then what am I?
And if not now, when?”
—Hillel, 1st century
It seems that the same questions have perplexed people throughout the ages. You may even ask yourself these same
questions as you consider a career transition or a place to volunteer. At the American Cancer Society, we work to offer you
a place where you can use your talent to make a difference in the world—a place where you can save lives while fulfilling your own.
I was drawn to work at the American Cancer Society not because my life has been affected by cancer at so many turns,
although it has, and not because I wanted to share my expertise in a new setting, which I did, but because the mission of
the American Cancer Society brings meaning and new dimensions to my life every day. Progress toward eliminating
cancer as a major health problem is advancing at incredible rates, and the American Cancer Society contributes to this
goal in countless ways.
As chief talent officer for the American Cancer Society here at the National Home Office in Atlanta, Georgia, my role includes
leading staff and volunteers and focusing on attracting, developing, and retaining talent for this wonderfully diverse organization.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive, meaningful work environment where all of our staff and
volunteers are nurtured and developed so we can be effective in the fight against cancer. I hope you find the opportunity to achieve
the same level of satisfaction in your work as I have found in my role here.
As you explore this site, consider the impact your career choice has on your life. This choice affects how you spend at least
half of your waking hours. This choice is about bringing together what you can do with what you want to do. This choice reflects
what you value most and where you are willing to make the most significant investments of your time and energy. Wherever you
choose to pursue a career or volunteer
your time, we hope that you will consider the American Cancer Society—a place where your talent really can help save lives.
