How Your Donation Helps
Research
The American Cancer Society funds the most innovative, groundbreaking research so future generations need never get cancer. We are the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit source of funds for scientists studying cancer. Our research program has resulted in saving literally millions of lives. We provided funding for breakthroughs such as tamoxifen, bone marrow transplants, and molecular therapies that have given new hope to the mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children touched by cancer. We continue to invest in the most promising programs until we achieve our ultimate goal—the elimination of cancer.

Advocacy and Public Policy
Cancer is a political, as well as a medical, psychological, social, and economic issue. Life and death decisions about cancer are made every day not just in the doctor’s office but in Congress and statehouses. That’s why the American Cancer Society holds advocacy as a top priority. We make sure the most important voices are heard—the voices of the nearly 9 million people in America today living with cancer. We want lawmakers nationwide to hear loud and clear that curing cancer is a top priority of the American people.
